City of Manassas Eliminates PSTs and Improves Capacity of Exchange Servers with ArchiveOne
The Customer
Once the site of the first major land battle of the American Civil War, the City of Manassas, Virginia is an independent city of nearly 40,000 residents just outside the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area. The city’s Information Technology Division provides leadership and guidance to city departments in the introduction and use of new technologies, which enhance services to its citizens.
The City of Manassas’ Challenge
Like many government entities, the City of Manassas is regulated by laws that govern the retention and accessibility of email. In addition to services such as computer support, telecommunications management, software and database analysis and design, the IT staff is responsible for the security of electronically stored information. With 400 employees, the City of Manassas used PST files as part of its email management system. As the scale of PST files continued to grow, the City of Manassas looked for an email archiving solution that would enable it to minimize the challenges associated with PST files while helping to improve the capacity of its Exchange servers. Acting on a referral by Franklin County, Virginia, City of Manassas IT Manager, Randy Buzzard, turned to C2C and its ArchiveOne Enterprise product for email archiving and PST management.
The Solution
from C2C The configuration of ArchiveOne Enterprise selected by the City of Manassas included solutions for Compliance and Policy archiving and PST file management and elimination. Archiving email and eliminating PST files increased their Exchange server capacity, and ArchiveOne’s advanced search provided users with better search functions for eDiscovery. Further, ArchiveOne is transparent to end users and allows them to access live and archived email from one interface.
The Result
C2C’s ArchiveOne was the ideal solution for the archiving, retention and eDiscovery needs of the City of Manassas. By providing full PST management – from discovering PST files, to analyzing the data held in them, to migrating data directly to the archive, and lastly eliminating the files – the City of Manhassas realized there was no longer any need to create PST files at all.
They were able to minimize the server space needed for mailboxes, reducing the footprint for their email data, and ultimately reducing backup and restore times and the costs associated with email management.
